My
roommates used to be busy even in the weekends and hardly get time to relax. We
planned for a trip to Hogenakkal for the past 4 months and it executed on 08th
of March. This trip means something to me and I wish to share the experiences.
Hogenakkal
falls is a waterfall on the river Kaveri; sometimes described as the “Niagara
of India”. It is located in the Dharmapuri district of Tamilnadu and it is 180 Km away from Bangalore
city. Actually the name is derived from Kannada words Hoge (Smoke) + Kal
(Stone), which literally mean fog from rock and you can witness this along with
drizzling. You should not miss three things in your trip 1. Oil massage and
bath in the waterfalls 2. Boating and 3. Fresh fish.

Instructions which won’t practically apply.

We
started by 5 o clock from Bangalore and reached around 8 ‘o’clock in the
morning and as usual paid some bucks for entry and parking to unknown persons
who disappear afterwards. As soon as you get down from the vehicle people will surround
you for cooking and massage, they won’t leave you until you choose one. If you
are non-vegetarian and a foodie, I would suggest you to appoint a cook and get
the fresh fish from the market located inside.

As
like every tourist place, here also you will be screwed up with the prices, we
paid one thousand for fish and cooking for five people, three hundred for oil
for five people, thousand five hundred for massage and two litter water battle
cost you rupees forty.

The
massage guys started with three hundred for fifteen minutes, our negotiation
skills brought it to two hundred; I’m sure it is more than ours hourly earnings,
but it is worth of it. If you have more stress, physical or mental pain; you
should get a massage. If you are a vegetarian, you won’t get a pure veg hotel
and you need to adjust to the available once. Once bath and lunch is done, you
can start with sightseeing and boating in the silent water. They told us the
deepness of the water is between 30 to 70 meters, I am surprised how the boat
made of bamboo sticks can accommodate eight people. You should think a bit
about boating without a life jacket. I never had this much braveness to climb
and walk on the unstructured rocks on the mountain. This meant me something
that, your disappointment can give you braveness and it matters how you use it.

The
trip completed in the evening after pleasant massage, nice food (not for veggies/me),
and good photos and with a few lessons. I advise you to have negotiation skills
or a negotiator within yourself to save some money also buy things required for
oil bath, required quantity of drinking water and pack your food if you
constraint about veg food.
Have a nice trip!!!
